History tells us that Kauai's infamous Powerline Trail was last cleared in 1996, and after the first mile you'll believe it.
Those adventurous souls seeking a glimpse of the island's inner rain forest will truly appreciate this hike. It's not glamorous, and even after several rainless days of you'll come out with mud to your knees.
We were fortunate to arrive for our first trek on this trail a morning after boar hunters had set out hours before us and cleared the trail. In many parts, the trail is heavily overgrown and hardly more than a game trail. It's tough to imagine what this must have looked like when it was used to service the powerlines, but it now offers glimpses of uninhabited valleys on Kauai's interior you would only see otherwise by helicopter.
